Assignments:

1. Weekly reading summary/question (15%): Due Mondays, unless there is no class on Monday, in which case they will be due on Wednesday.

The goal of the summary to demonstrate clearly that you have read and understood the the articles assigned. Sometime it will take more than one take before that article is properly digested. You then ask a question. We will use your questions in our discussions on Fridays.

2. Midterm paper (15%): A short paper focusing on argument reconstruction and analysis (750-1000 words) due Sunday, October 5, 2008, 11 p.m.

In the first paper we will practice argument analysis and critique. You will choose a piece from our readings, reconstruct the main argument, and asses it for validity and soundness.

3. Final presentation/paper (50%)

You are responsible for presenting one of the assigned readings. The presentation time is 25 minutes. Our hope is that the ideas from your presentation together with those of your short summaries will evolve into a sophisticated, perhaps even publishable, piece (2500-3000 words). The paper is due Monday, December 15, 2008, 11 p.m.

4a. Participation (15%)

4b. Participation in SecondLife (5%)
